In the city of Verona on March 27th, the first of two volumes celebrating the 40th anniversary of the European Weightlifting Federation will be presented. The history of European weightlifting analysed by two renowned experts on International weightlifting and enriched with illustrations of stunning works of art.
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the European Weightlifting Federation, based in the Republic of San Marino has published a book that recounts the history of European (but not only) weightlifting: European Weightlifting History: 1969-2009, subtitled The European Weightlifting has an ancient heart. It is the work of two published authors, renowned experts on International weightlifting: Livio Toschi, EWF historical and artistic expert and Marino Ercolani Casadei, General Secretary of the Federation.
The first of the two volumes to be published will be presented on March 27th in the city of Verona, on the occasion of the International symposium, “New challenges for weightlifting in the Third Millennium”. The book contains four chapters: Weightlifting in literature and art, by L. Toschi; Weightlifting history through big international competitions: 1896-1969, by L. Toschi and M. Ercolani Casadei, with the addition of two articles by Gottfried Schödl and Waldemar Baszanowski; a brief history of the 10 European centenary federations (Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, Holland, Russia and Sweden); a rich appendix. The book is completed by a presentation by the EWF President (Antonio Urso - Italy), the author’s foreword, the bibliography and essential chronology, all embellished with 250 illustrations, many of which are reproductions of stunning works of art – ancient and modern – relating to weightlifting.
